Planning your wedding in Ireland? If you want your marriage to be legally recognised, choosing a Registered Solemniser is essential. As a professional HSE Wedding Celebrant and Solemniser, I, Nicola McGuire, ensure your ceremony is both legally binding and deeply personal. Here’s everything you need to know about the legal requirements and how I can help make your special day stress-free.
As a valued member of the Enchanted Ceremonies group of non-denominational Celebrants, Holistic Ministers & Solemnisers, I offer a Celebrant Guarantee. In the unlikely event of an unforeseen emergency, a backup Celebrant will always be available—so you can have complete peace of mind on your wedding day!
To ensure your wedding is legally recognised in Ireland, here are the four key steps you need to follow:
For a legal marriage in Ireland, you must choose a Celebrant who is a Registered Solemniser of Marriages—like me! If you choose a Celebrant who isn’t a Registered Solemniser, you will need to attend a HSE Civil Registration Office on another day with your witnesses for a Registry Office marriage, which isn’t ideal.By choosing me as your Celebrant and Solemniser, I will ensure that your wedding ceremony is a real legal marriage ceremony on the day of your wedding, making your experience seamless and meaningful.
Ireland offers a breathtaking selection of wedding venues, from historic castles and luxury hotels to cultural landmarks and intimate settings. Whether you dream of a grand celebration or a micro wedding, I can officiate your ceremony at your chosen location.
Your two witnesses must be over 18 years old. You’ll need their full legal names and dates of birth for your marriage notification appointment with the HSE.
If your wedding is less than 12 months away, you must book an in-person appointment with the HSE to lodge your Notification of Intention to Marry (NOIM). If you live outside of Ireland, you can submit your NOIM by email.
When attending your Notification Appointment, you will need to provide:
On your wedding day, remember to bring your green folder and Marriage Registration Form (MRF) to be signed during the ceremony. After your wedding, the completed MRF must be returned to the HSE Civil Registration Office on the next business day (or within 30 days) to finalise your legal marriage registration.
